The Ministry of Natural Resources and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe have cooperated on the development of China's solid and oil and mineral resources reserves classification standards and UNFC docking documents. UNFC is a global, principle-based resource classification system for the classification, management and reporting of resources from solid minerals, oil and gas, renewable energy and human activities. Ensuring efficient management of solid and oil and gas mineral resources and supporting sustainable economic and social development are the common goals of UNFC and China's national standards. China's national standard "Classification of Solid Mineral Resources / Reserves" (GB/T 17766-1999), "Classification of Oil and Gas Resources / Reserves" (GB/T 19492-2004) applies to national solid and oil and mineral resources reserves management, information disclosure, etc. .
On September 26th, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe's Sustainable Energy Committee adopted a docking document. The document explains the relationship between China's national standards and UNFC, including the introduction and guidance on how to classify and manage resources through the use of UNFC. The development of these docking documents will help promote the sustainable development of energy resources and expand international cooperation.
Since 1997, Chinese experts have actively participated in the development of UNFC. The development of China's national standard "Classification of Solid Mineral Resources/Reserves" has maintained compatibility with UNFC-1997. In 2015, the former Mineral Resources Reserve Evaluation Center of the Ministry of Land and Resources and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe Resource Classification Expert Group began to cooperate in the development of docking documents. The development of China's national standards and UNFC docking documents has deepened the cooperation between the two sides, enhanced mutual exchanges and understanding, and promoted the standard interconnection.
Ms. Olga Algayelova, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Europe, said: “The docking document is an important milestone in the global adoption of the United Nations Resource Classification Framework, which will help advance China and the UN Economic Commission for Europe. In-depth exchanges and cooperation in the field of sustainable energy, actively implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and expanding the international cooperation of the 'One Belt, One Road' initiative,” said Jianhua Jian, Director of the Department of Mineral Resources Protection and Supervision of the Ministry of Natural Resources, “We hope to strengthen the UN The cooperation of the Economic Commission for Europe promotes the joint construction of mineral resource reserves standards between countries and promotes sustainable development in the global energy resources sector."
