The effect of the particle size composition of the ore iron particles to be selected on the magnetic separation is evident. Each magnetic separator has its own finest particles that can be recycled. When the fine particles are smaller than the smallest fine particles, it is called fine mud. There is still no uniform standard for the particle boundaries of fine mud. For example, re-election of fine mud is often indicated—74 μm fine-grained portion, flotation refers to –10 μm, and magnetic separation refers to –5 to 10 μm portion. The presence of fines greatly deteriorates the beneficiation performance of the magnetic separator because of its extremely poor selectivity. Increasing the magnetic field strength or reducing the slurry flow rate can improve the recovery of fine mud, but this improvement is often limited. Moreover, this measure cannot be used in a continuously operating magnetic separator. It does not have a device slurry flow rate control device, and the resistance of the dielectric layer is a serious obstacle when handling fine mud. However, in the magnetic separator of the cycle operation, the flow rate control is simple and effective, and it becomes a reality in the kaolin industry. Another measure is de-sludge - the removal of particles of a certain critical size. The boundary particles are determined by the magnetic susceptibility of the recovered particles, the background magnetic field used, and the slurry flow rate. The de-sludge effect increases the beneficiation recovery rate and process and process selectivity, but the loss of valuable minerals in the slime increases and increases the complexity of the processing loop. From the flotation tailings containing chalcopyrite and galena, copper is recovered by magnetic separation. Desliming has certain influence on the recovery of copper and lead. The magnetic induction intensity of the magnetic medium used in the magnetic separator is 1.2T. The medium was a 6 mm steel ball with a void flow rate of 0.12 m/s. From the actual test results, it can be seen that the effective elimination of the 10 μm particles not only increases the recovery rate and grade of the concentrate to a certain extent, but also produces an overflow portion which is actually incompatible with the magnetic separation, that is, the fine mud which is removed. When the boundary particle size is high, the degreasing effect is not good, the recovery rate is lowered, and the overflow portion is excessively high. This de-sludge increases the loss of metal in the fine mud, which complicates the circuit in vain. When deciding whether to pre-de-sludge, it is necessary to conduct an experimental study and comprehensively consider the technical and economic indicators before making a correct judgment.
