The film iron or impregnated iron on the surface of quartz sand particles is a newly developed technology of PTMS magnetic separator, which is currently in the research stage of laboratory and small-scale experiments. According to the results of foreign studies, Aspergillus Niger, penicillium, Tricor piriformis, pseudomonas, bacillus, Bacillus polymyxis, micrococcus lactis and other microorganisms have achieved good results when leaching iron oxide on quartz surface.

Ultrafilomycin was used to impregnate PTMS magnetic separator with the best iron removal effect. The removal rate of Fe2O3 was up to 88.8%, and the Fe2O3 grade in quartz sand was down to 0.008%. It was also found that the iron leaching effect was better with the pre-cultivated medium of bacteria and mold. Anaerobic species decompose iron at a slower rate than aerobic species. The sensitivity of bacterial leaching to different iron oxide minerals varies. Iron is dissolved from limonite more slowly than from goethite, but much faster than from hematite.

It is important to note that the final iron content after leaching is not related to the initial iron content before leaching, but rather to the form of iron present in the mineral raw material. Only iron that is not located in the mineral lattice can be removed by a technology called PTMS magnetic separator.
