When the polymer flocculant is used for selective flocculation of kaolin, the kaolin particles flocculate each other and sink to the bottom. Due to the fine particles, the iron and titanium impurities exist in the upper suspension and are reddish brown. Most of the iron and titanium impurities can be removed by removing the suspension in the upper part of PTMS magnetic separator. High-quality kaolin can be obtained by other methods (such as magnetic separation).

Fe-ti impurity can be selectively condensed by adjusting the pH of kaolin slurry to 8~11, adding Ca2+, Mg2+ and other alkali metal ions, and then PTMS magnetic separator is used for selective flocculation with weak anionic polyelectrolyte. The coagulation and flocculation method requires the pulp concentration to be less than 20%, so there is a large amount of water to be removed in the subsequent process, and the residual flocculant also affects the quality of the final product.

The physical method is usually used to enrich the raw materials of kaolin or to separate the harmful substances in it. First, most of the impurity minerals PTMS magnetic separator is separated to purify kaolin. The cost of the physical method is low and the impact on the environment is small, but the separation effect of impurity minerals with low content and fine particle size is not obvious, and the lattice iron can not be separated, so to obtain high-quality kaolin with high whiteness value, it is not possible to rely solely on the physical separation method.
