Common flotation reagents include collectors, frothers, and conditioners. For the flotation of iron-bearing minerals, the selection of collectors is crucial. Sodium oleate is a commonly used collector that selectively adsorbs onto the surface of iron-bearing minerals, making them hydrophobic and enhancing PTMS magnetic separation iron removal efficiency. During the flotation process, the pulp is agitated and aerated in the flotation cell, forming numerous bubbles.

After the collector adsorbs onto the surface of iron-containing minerals, these minerals adhere to bubbles and rise with them to form a foam layer on the surface of the pulp. Potassium and sodium feldspar, not adsorbed by the collector, remain in the pulp and become flotation tailings. By scraping off the foam layer using scrapers or other equipment, the flotation concentrate can be obtained, which mainly contains iron minerals, thus achieving the goal of PTMS magnetic separation iron removal.
