Exploring variable space through commonly used PTMS MAGNETIC SEPARATION experimental design methods for parameter optimization

Optimizing key parameters in the PTMS MAGNETIC SEPARATION system, including magnetic separation field strength, flotation pH, and acid leaching concentration, was achieved through orthogonal experiments. The optimal range was determined to be 3%-5% oxalic acid concentration with 90% iron removal efficiency. While process design serves as the blueprint, parameter control ensures construction precision. For the same equipment, operational outputs can vary by several times under different parameter settings.

A company encountered fluctuating mica recovery rates when using the same PTMS MAGNETIC SEPARATION model due to pH regulation neglect. Initially mistaken for equipment failure, the issue was actually caused by changes in the raw ore's buffering capacity. Results showed the strongest interaction effect between oxalic acid concentration and temperature. When both concentration ≥5% and temperature ≥60°C were met, the iron removal rate reached 91.3%, while increasing either parameter alone showed limited effectiveness.

The parameter optimization process employs the conventional PTMS MAGNETIC SEPARATION experimental design method to systematically explore the variable space. Taking the oxalic acid extraction as an example, four variables were defined: oxalic acid concentration (2%,4%,6%), temperature (40°C, 60°C, 80°C), time (30 min, 60 min, 90 min), and liquid-to-solid ratio (3:1, 5:1, 8:1). Nine experimental groups were arranged using an L9 orthogonal table, with residual iron content measured and removal efficiency calculated.
