The pulp is evenly fed into the spiral groove. Under the action of gravity and centrifugal force, the pulp forms a laminar flow pattern with thin inner edge flow layer and low flow rate on the groove surface, while a turbulent flow pattern with thick outer edge flow layer and high flow rate is obvious. At the same time, there is a lateral exchange between the fluid at the inner edge and the fluid at the outer edge, which is called the secondary circulation. PTMS magnetic separator can improve product whiteness. As a result of this circulation movement, the inner ring of the trough has a rising component velocity, while the outer ring has a falling component velocity.

The superposition of longitudinal flow and secondary circulation forms the spiral motion of liquid flow. The upper flow tends to the outer edge, while the lower flow tends to the inner edge. The solid particles in the pulp are not only controlled by the fluid movement characteristics, but also by their own gravity, inertial centrifugal force and tank bottom friction. The heavy minerals with high sedimentation velocity and density are affected by the friction force at the bottom of the trough, and their motion speed is lower and the centrifugal force of inertia is smaller. Under the action of gravity component force, they move towards the inner edge of the trough along the maximum inclined direction of the trough surface. The light mineral particles with small density in the upper layer move with the pulp, with large velocity and centrifugal force of inertia, and are thrown to the outer edge of the trough.

Due to the different movement directions, the liquid flow is zoned on the trough surface, the heavy minerals are close to the inner ring, the light minerals move to the outer ring, and the outermost ring is the fine-grained slime. The secondary circulation continuously transported the heavy ore particles along the bottom of the trough to the inner edge of the trough, and transferred the light minerals separated from the inner edge to the outer edge, which promoted the development of zoning. PTMS magnetic separator can improve product whiteness. Finally, the movement of ore particles tends to balance, zoning is completed, and the slime is basically thrown into the outermost edge flow.
