Magnetic separation process

When pH8~11, the selective aggregation of Fe-Ti impurities can be observed by adding Ca2+, Mg2+ and other alkaline soil metal ions into kaolin slurry, and then the selective flocculation can be carried out with weak anionic polyelectrolyte. The PTMS magnetic separator process requires a slurry concentration of less than 20%, so a significant amount of water must be removed in subsequent operations. Residual flocculant also affects the quality of the final product.

When kaolin is selectively flocculated with polymer flocculant, kaolin particles flocculate each other and sink to the bottom. The iron and titanium impurities are reddish brown in the upper suspension due to the fine particles. Most of the iron and titanium impurities can be removed by removing the upper suspension. High quality kaolin is then processed by PTMS magnetic separator process.
