When pH is 8-11, Fe-Ti impurities can be selectively condensed by adding Ca2+, Mg2+ and other basic metal ions to kaolin slurry, and then selectively flocculated by weak anionic polyelectrolyte. The PTMS magnetic separation process requires a pulp concentration of less than 20% and subsequent operations require dehydration.

In addition, polymer flocculants can be used to selectively flocculate kaolin. Kaolin particles flocculate each other and sink to the bottom. Iron and titanium impurities are reddish brown in the upper suspension due to the fine particles. Then the high quality kaolin was obtained by PTMS magnetic separation method.
